It is considered the main hub of the island.

In addition to being the island’s commercial hub, Mae Haad offers a few beaches with coral reefs just offshore, good for snorkeling (though there are better spots.) While it’s less lively than Sairee at night, Mae Haad has some great sunset views, particularly from its quieter stretches of beach. You are always in walking distance of the pier!

In my opinion is the best beach to visit on the island for sun bathing and snorkeling, and it is relatively easy to get to with a bike or taxi. There are a few rustic resorts and beachside restaurants, allowing visitors to enjoy fresh seafood and beautiful views in a serene environment.
5. Tanote Bay
Another gem on the eastern side, Tanote Bay is a favorite among divers and snorkelers. The bay is fringed with coral reefs teeming with marine life, making it an underwater haven. Tanote Bay is also known for its rock formations, including a large boulder in the bay that’s popular for cliff jumping. There is a ton of great marine life, and the beach isn't so bad for relaxing on too! This area offers a mix of small, family-run resorts and guesthouses, with fewer crowds than the western beaches. The vibe here is laid-back, ideal for those who enjoy a blend of adventure and relaxation. It is easy to get to on a motorbike, but there is a bit of a steep hill on the road to get there, so make sure your bike is powerful enough to get back up!
6. Mango Bay
Located in the north of Koh Tao, Mango Bay is a quiet, secluded spot accessible by boat or a rugged trek. It’s perfect for snorkeling, with coral gardens and abundant marine species. Though accommodations are limited, Mango Bay is popular for day trips and snorkeling excursions, where visitors can enjoy the beautiful, unspoiled scenery. Mango bay is very hard to get to on a motorbike, so it is recommended to visit during a snorkeling/diving trip, or with a taxi's help.
